Wedding Designer Feature: Berta Balilti

Designer Berta Balilti has been turning heads in the bridal fashion industry for more than 15 years. Her signature gowns are not for the faint of heart, but for the bold bride that wants a feminine edge. Celebrities adore her, bridal publications are amazed by her, and we can’t get enough of her ourselves!

How It All Began

Berta Balilti was born December 11, 1964, in Cairo, Egypt. She grew up with a love for fashion and decided to attend the Shankar Fashion Institute. Right after college, she started with a casual ready-to-wear collection, but the bridal industry really spoke to her. She says the bridal field is the only place you can really let your inhibitions go and have the utmost freedom of design. So, the natural next step was to start designing wedding gowns.

Getting Into the Bridal Industry

As a side gig, Berta started sewing wedding dresses at home. Word spread shortly after, and the orders started piling up, so she decided to open her own boutique. In 2004, she opened her fashion house in Israel and has been the sole designer ever since.

The Empire Today

Berta oversees the entire production process in her studio, where the gowns are handmade and considered their own unique creation. It’s easy to spot a Berta gown—they’re avant-garde, bold, unique, and modern while also combining vintage materials and retro styles. Want to show off your figure? A Berta gown is the way to go. Her gowns boast sexy silhouettes and plunging necklines with feminine touches.

The company focuses on high quality for all their designs. You can expect imported fabrics, and hand-embroidered lace in many of Berta’s gowns. Of course, high luxury includes a high price tag—brides pay between $7,000-$10,000 for a Berta gown. No matter what your style is, you’re sure to find something that makes your heart sing from one of Berta’s three bridal collections. She also has an evening line that’s available in her NYC showroom in SoHo.

These amazing designs have taken the world by storm and by 2013 Berta hit the international scene. Her Instagram account alone has millions of followers, and her dresses are available in over 150 retailers around the world.

Our Fave Berta Looks

True to Berta’s signature style, the Berta Como SS22 collection is both intricate and sophisticated. Many of the dresses have figure-hugging silhouettes, sheer details, and sexy necklines. Each gown has its own unique features but we’re loving all the different aspects of the shimmery slit dress: the one sleeve, the sweetheart neckline, and the glittery sequins. The mermaid gown is dreamy, especially in the peach color and the v-neck gown is so flowy and modern. So many great options to choose from!

Berta’s MUSE 2022 collection is just as unique and romantic. We can’t get enough of the soft fabrics, flowy skirts, and intricate details. The Isabel gown features beautiful lace sleeves and a plunging neckline while the Isadora gown has a sexy high slit revealing an illusion bodysuit underneath. Our personal fave? Ivone is so dreamy with the tulle skirt and a stunning illusion lace neckline.

As mentioned above, celebrities have fallen for Berta’s designs and many of them have chosen her to design their wedding gowns. Country singer Kacey Musgraves has been a fan of Berta for a while, so she leaned on the designer for an elegant and romantic design. Musgraves was absolutely glowing in her fully beaded, long-sleeved wedding gown.

Another popular singer, Meghan Trainor, chose Berta for her big day. For her backyard wedding, Trainor wore an off-the-shoulder gown with an illusion bodice and sparkly A-line skirt. Israeli supermodel and swimwear designer Neta Alchimister wore a similar gown for her wedding to soccer star Rami Gershon. She chose a strapless sweetheart gown from Berta’s Milano collection. It looks stunning on her!
