Designer Feature: BHLDN

If you’re looking for a one-stop shop for your wedding day, then look no further than BHLDN. The wedding brand, brought to you by their sister company Anthropologie, sells everything from wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses, to accessories and decor! It’s the perfect designer for the bride that values unique and unusually beautiful designs.

How it All Began for BHLDN

Before we go into the history of BHLDN, we need to go back to the brand’s roots. In 1992, Anthropologie opened its first doors in Pennsylvania. The company, owned by retailer Urban Outfitters, was founded by current president Richard Hayne. Hayne realized the world needed a lifestyle brand for creative, educated women in their thirties and forties.

Now, nearly 30 years later, the brand has over 200 stores worldwide. For the first 20 years, customers fell in love with the apparel, decor and gift options, but Hayne knew he wanted to expand into something new.

BHLDN’s Journey into the Bridal Industry

In true romantic fashion, BHLDN (pronounced “beholden”) launched on Valentine’s Day in 2011. The first brick-and-mortar location opened just six months later in Houston, TX. Their wedding dresses combine innovative style, beauty, personality, and heirloom-worthy craftsmanship to create their designs. The gowns come in a variety of silhouettes, colors and details designed for every type of bride.

The BHLDN Empire Today

Today, brides can find everything they need for their wedding day at one of 21 BHLDN locations. Brides can choose between an in store or online styling appointment. Beyond just wedding dresses, you can complete your wedding day look with a veil, headpiece, jewelry, shoes, and even lingerie!

Need to dress the whole wedding party? BHLDN offers dresses for bridesmaids, flower girls, mother of the bride, and reception options. If a bride needs to ship an order, most in-stock items ship within 24 hours.

One of the best parts about BHLDN is that the brand constantly partners with a number of talented designers. Through these collaborations, BHLDN can offer a wide variety of exclusive styles and looks. This means even more options for brides!

In 2020, BHLDN had a monumental year. The brand decided to offer more than half of their bridal and bridesmaid dresses in plus sizes. For the last two years, General Merchandise Manager Lori Conley has made plus-size gowns a priority for the brand, since one out of every ten BHLDN brides is plus size.

Today, brides can shop sizes 0-26W, and sizing is more aligned with ready-to-wear clothing. So whatever size you wear for Anthropologie clothes, that’s your wedding gown size for BHLDN.

The Fall 2021 bridal collection is nothing short of excellent. The off-the-shoulder Sylvie gown is breathtaking. Silk organza floods the skirt of the ball gown and the large floral motif is stunning. And as a bonus, this gown is available in plus size!

If you’re wanting a more fitted silhouette, you can’t go wrong with Lucia or Rae. Lucia also features a floral motif, but with cascading lace embroidery. You’ll dazzle your guests in the Rae gown—she’s the Art Deco queen. The cowl neckline is vintage-inspired and glamorous.

Want to stop traffic? Say hello to the Burton suit jacket and pants set. The allover ivory lace is amazing, and perfect for a city hall elopement or a wedding gown alternative. It’s modern and timeless all in one!
