Real Wedding | Alexandra + Vidan

Mixing American and Serbian traditions, Alexandra and Vidan struck the perfect balance of formal and fun with a traditional Serbian Orthodox ceremony and an intimate outdoor evening reception for 50 guests in Belgrade, Serbia. I love the bride’s description of their ceremony and the moment, “When the priests put the crowns on our heads symbolizing that we were now the king and queen of our household, we really felt the responsibility that comes with marriage.” Indeed, being crowned king and queen on your wedding day sounds absolutely divine! Congrats to the happy couple!

Alexandra + Vidan | July 28, 2012 | Belgrade, Serbia

The Ceremony
It was a very traditional Serbian Orthodox ceremony, which was interesting for my family and me as we’re neither Serbian Orthodox nor speak Serbian. I loved how formal the ceremony was, with a beautiful choir singing above the altar and all the icons surrounding us. When the priests put the crowns on our heads symbolizing that we were now the king and queen of our household, we really felt the responsibility that comes with marriage.

The Reception
Our outdoor evening reception was planned to be very small and intimate. We used white hydrangeas and white oriental lilies for the centerpieces, surrounded by tea lights. This looked beautiful once the sunset. We had a DJ during dinner and a band played afterwards. Our guests were kept engaged by the combination of different traditions from our different cultures, like the wish tree and the personalized table numbers.

Alexandra’s Dress Search
I was looking for a fairly timeless dress with alencon lace. I had looked through both of my grandmothers’ wedding albums and wanted something that looked as timeless and classic as what they had worn.

Why Alexandra Decided to Sell Her Wedding Dress
I received so many wonderful compliments about my dress. After the wedding, I sent the gown to be preserved and look forward to sharing the same happiness and beauty that I felt with another lucky bride.
