The aesthetic for our wedding editorial shoot was driven by an appreciation for tropical Southeast Asia. We wanted to bring a sense of this region to the rest of the world using a modern minimalist lens.
Our color palette was inspired by the color variations seen in the yellow bougainvillea plant and the dried golden hue of the leaves from the Fukugi (or “happiness”) tree. The shoot took place in a light-filled studio in Singapore, and was brought together by an amazing, passionate and extremely talented team of creatives.
We wanted to include elements in the shoot that were meaningful, yet we were careful to keep our look clean and void of clutter. We chose Yixing clay teaware for their aged-yet-slick matted look. The subdued, elegant feel of the table setting was naturally brought into focus by the color-punched wedding suite, accented with beautiful modern calligraphy.
A tropical Southeast Asian-inspired garden installation provided a lush, whimsical backdrop to our internationally-based couple, whose look was inspired by a modern, clean, minimal aesthetic. Depth, scale, and texture were introduced by incorporating local varieties of potted plants, including bougainvillea, hibiscus, and Dracaena Marginata plants.
The visually impactful backdrop helped to anchor our accent tones and weave in a sense of place for our shoot. Keeping in line with our less-is-more vision, the tablescape was kept focused and minimal, with ikebana-inspired floral arrangements, naturally dyed silk ribbons and table runner, and menus accented with the colors of mustard, ochre and some pops of peach.
