Kristin + Matt | Lazaro Wedding from Paula Player Photography

Kristin + Matt’s Derby Chic wedding from Georgetown, South Carolina is a real winner! I love the big, blooming garden roses in shades of coral…mint juleps…and this couple’s playful focus on food and libations.  Kristin’s ivory silk satin organza gown by Lazaro is a lovely mixture of modern and fun and the ruffled skirt, fitted bodice, button closure and Kristin’s added blue sash are the perfect nod to the glamor and sass of the Kentucky Derby.  And full marks for all around glamorous wedding guests and wedding party, as Kristin adds, “They did not disappoint!”.  Enjoy!

The Ceremony
Matt and I were married on a hot, sunny day in South Carolina.  It was also Derby Day, so we used that as the theme.  We asked our guests to wear “Derby Chic” attire and they did not disappoint!  Many of our friends and family participated in the ceremony, as bridesmaids, groomsmen, readers, singers, and even the officiant, who was Matt’s childhood camp counselor.  My little brother walked me down the grand staircase of DeBordieu’s Clubhouse, where my father took my arm and led me to my groom.  The low country marshland provided a gorgeous backdrop as we exchanged our vows.  It was magical.

The Reception
After the ceremony, we watched the Kentucky Derby on an outdoor TV as we sipped mint juleps and listened to the jazz band.  Then everyone made their way to DeBordieu’s Beach Club for dinner and dancing. Dinner was served southern stations style (a first for many of our northern friends) and included a little something for everyone.  The tablescapes pulled together many of the design elements of the wedding: mint julep vases, grey chevron table numbers, pale blue table runners, and big, blooming garden roses in shades of coral.  After a few toasts, our AWESOME band kicked off the music and dancing on the large deck overlooking the beach.  About an hour later, a huge thunderstorm rolled through and forced everyone to take a break.  Once the band was back on though, things got rowdy and the dance floor was – quite literally – bouncing!  Matt and I didn’t want the night to end, so we went to the after party, held by some of our graduate school friends at one of the big beach houses.  It was the best and most fun day of my life!

Kristin’s Dress Search
I knew I wanted something fitted, since I didn’t want to get lost in all kinds of fabric.  I also wanted something modern, fun, and feminine that would work well with the big horsehair sash that I was intent on wearing.  It was important to me that I didn’t look like every other bride.  With every dress I tried on, I came closer to finding “the one,” and in the end it was two of my closest girl friends that knew it when they saw it!

Sassy, Glamorous, Unique.

Why Kristin Decided to Sell Her Wedding Dress
I have so many amazing photos and mementos to remember the day; it just didn’t seem practical to hold onto a dress I would never wear again.  I felt so great in this dress and it would be a shame for it to only be worn once!
