When it comes time to do your engagement shoot, we thought it might be fun you to hear how this shoot was done. We think it is a great way to capture the true nature of your relationship at this wonderful time in your lives.
From the photographer, Jessica:
This was my favourite session from my time a recent photography workshop on Whidby Island, Washington with Ginny Au and her amazing creative team. The shoot was named “Adventure”, and every detail of it felt that way – from the styling, to the couple, to the wild chase we went on to capture it. The shooting process was pre-scripted by the stylists, based on the couple, and then we (the photographers) follow along to document as the story unfolds with no interruptions. It’s a really beautiful way to capture authenticity, a style of shooting that I’ve pulled into my own work in many ways over the years.
The reason I loved this shoot so much was because there was a tenderness to the couple, a connection that felt so intimate while also enabling them to be an amazing team. They laughed and teased each other, always moving in closer to their mate while effortlessly moving in the same direction. Seeing them in the setting of a road trip really touched me because it felt so familiar to a theme in my own marriage, which in many ways has felt very transitional. In the 6.5 years we have been married we have either been moving to a new city or traveling. This shoot captured the “imperfection” of the lifestyle, the ways it can be less pretty and easy. Yet it also shows how you can grow to realize that it’s much more the person that feels like home, rather then the place.
