You always hear stories about last minute changes due to weather, but what about when a tropical storm hits the night before an art deco garden party wedding? With the help of a flexible florist, Amber + Jordan, were able to move their ocean bluff ceremony in-land to create a ‘a garden-like outdoor stage’ to tie the knot. I love that! Other details not to miss: a big brass band playing “Here Comes the Bride” Orleans-style as Amber walked down the aisle or Amber’s Elizabeth Fillmore gown called ‘Deco’…a dress suggestion made by the designer herself when today’s featured bride had the opportunity to meet Elizabeth Fillmore at a trunk show. That sounds perfect and totally meant to be!

The Ceremony
A tropical storm hit the night before the wedding. The ceremony was planned for a gazebo overlooking an ocean bluff, but due to the residual wind from the storm, we opted to move away from the water. Our florist improvised and created a garden-like outdoor stage to hold the ceremony. My now-husband loves big brass so our band, Hoo Doo Loungers, play me down to a new Orleans-style “Here Comes the Bride”. It immediately calmed my nerves and reminded me this was a celebration.
The Reception
Our theme was art deco garden party. It took place at an inn from the 1800’s with a sloping, grassy landscape with mature flowers and foliage. We played off the ‘old’ feel and tried to add some deco glamor with dove grey linens, lots of mercury glass, silver, romantic white flowers with pops of peach. We hung grapevine lanterns from the oak trees to play up the garden party feel and set up a lounge area under the striped awning to enjoy the evening setting. As a DIY bride you never know if it’s going to look as good in real life as it does on your Pinterest board, but we were thrilled with how it all came together.
Amber’s Dress Search
I originally set out to get a Jenny Packham dress that I had my eye on ever since I got engaged. I tried it on and though it was a beautiful dress, it just wasn’t ‘the one’. That leveled the playing field and opened me up to try most styles. My mom and sisters came to town to go dress shopping with me. My first appointment was having an Elizabeth Fillmore trunk show. The designer was there and I told her about my theme and vision for the big day. She said she had ‘the dress’. She brought out the “Deco” and it was “the one”.

I’m very sentimental and will have my photos and memories of how that dress made me feel forever. The thought of it sitting sealed up in a basement would break my heart. I want another ‘deco’ lover to have her perfect dress. I hope this amazing dress makes many more brides swoon on their wedding day.
