Tropical Destination Wedding in Mexico

It’s always invigorating and inspiring to see travel photos from other places in the world, and to see new environments photographed beautifully for a couple’s wedding is doubly special. Today, Chelsey and Donald’s destination wedding in Mexico story shows us how a couple can truly create a simple event with tropical flair, while remaining true to their own style.

Read on for more from the photographer, Chantel Marie Photography:
“This wedding was the most authentic representation of a couple that I have ever shot.  Chelsey and Donald brought together the exact elements that make them who they are and make them happy as a couple.  They moved past any pressures from outside sources on what they ‘should’ do for their wedding or the things they ‘should’ have included. Their focus on what makes them happy is what made the day so authentic. They did exactly what THEY wanted, and it was perfect.”

“The sisal and palms, lush botanicals, and warm tropical air drew us to the Yucatán for our celebration of love. We invited our closest loved ones to join us on the palm-covered grounds of Hacienda Sac Chich, a beautiful and historic property made up of three homes in the jungle outside the city of Mérida.

The setting itself was magical and played an important role in the celebration. Donald and I stayed several nights at Casa Sisal, the more modern part of the hacienda and also the site of our ceremony. Being able to make that sacred site our home for some time before and after the wedding was incredibly special. We wrote our vows together, looking out onto the great lawn where we would exchange them the next day.

On the day of the wedding, we shared a large breakfast of fresh fruit and chilaquiles with our friends who stayed with us at the hacienda. Our dear friend and officiant Richard led a meditation. Then we all lounged by the pool together. We had an incredibly relaxing day before the wedding began.

The most beautiful moments of the festivities were those of the ceremony. We arranged guests to sit in a circle with us at its center. Before we entered, Richard circled the space with holy copal. What happened next was beyond words. The powerful energy of love that emanated around us was infinite and transportive and brought nearly everyone to tears. Those were moments of truth—that love is everything.”
