Wendy Hanson and Ben Allen married in the backyard garden of Ben’s parents’ on a warm Sunday, May 29, 2011, in Athens, Georgia. A true family (and friends!) affair, everything from the flowers and decorations to the food and music were made by family or friends of the creative couple. Ben, an award winning music producer and musician, and Wendy, a clothing designer and artist, both contributed thoughtful ingredients to the day. Ben composed the music for the ceremony, while Wendy handcrafted individual ribbon wands and fabric origami butterflies for each guest, as well as ikat escort flags. Wendy’s illustrations were letterpressed onto the wedding invitations and the screenprinted table linens and gift bags. And, as if that was not enough, the bride braided and tied 100 yards of white textile remnants into a chain that was draped from tree to tree, along a path leading the guests from the wedding site to the reception area. In true Athens, Georgia-style, the weekend was a mix of classic southern hospitality and beauty with a dash of modern, handmade fun.
