With winter approaching, destination wedding season is about to start. Here’s a gorgeous beach wedding that shows how completely fantastic a destination wedding can be. (How great are the flip flops at the top of the invitation?)
Nicole and Nicholas were married on January 11, 2009 in Aruba. Here’s Nicole’s take on their Big Day.
How they Met:
We met 15 years ago at work but were both in other relationships and were way too young to be in a serious relationship, so we started as great friends. Seven years of friendship later I graduated from college and we were both at the right place in our lives at the right time!
The Proposal:
Nick owns a restaurant and if very busy with catering on Christmas Eve. We worked 48 hours straight, rushed home to take quick showers and head to my parents house for Christmas Eve dinner. Nick surprised me by popping open a bottle of champagne and getting down on one knee.
The Wedding & Reception:
I never grew up imagining my white wedding and I never had an idea of what kind of dress I would wear. I spent hours and hours searching the web for a style that I would love. I finally found a dress on the Priscilla of Boston website that I loved and knew it had to be mine. The next day my mother and I went down to try it on…it was my dress, the first and only dress I ever tried on! It fit like a glove and felt like a million dollars on, especially when I was dancing.
Our wedding was an actual week long celebration in Aruba with 29 of our closest friends and family. The ceremony took place on the beach at sunset. We are not very traditional, I had my brother as my “man of honor” and he had his sister as his “best woman”. Also, instead of exchanging rings I had a ring but Nick got a watch…I called it the world’s biggest ring!
Cocktail hour was on the beach and the reception was up by the pool area. The pool at the Westin has absolutely beautiful lighting which set up a great atmosphere. Everything was perfect…the food, drinks, flowers & music. The guests were a perfect match, everyone danced all night long right into the after party which was moved inside because our DJ was too loud!
Favorite Detail:
If we have to pick our favorite detail about the wedding it would be the flowers. When we planned the wedding we were not picky about the flowers because we figured it was an island and what could be better than island flowers, but they were better than we imagined!!!
Our destination wedding was amazing! We had a whole week of celebrating with our guests so we got a little extra time to enjoy ourselves and relish in the moments but it still flew by. We can’t wait to visit Aruba again in January to celebrate our 1 year anniversary.
