Real Wedding | Monica + Rick

Chandeliers hanging from the trees and a brass band greeting guests are just two of the ways Monica and Rick made their wedding unique. This beautiful bride followed her heart when planning for her special day – choosing a non-traditional color scheme (it’s gorgeous!) and going with her first instinct when searching for her dream wedding dress. Dancing the night away with friends and family, Monica looked amazing and, in her own words, “stylish and confident.” We couldn’t agree more!

Monica +  Rick | May 5, 2012 | The Graylyn Estate, Winston-Salem, North Carolina

The ceremony

We wanted it to be romantic, comfortable and story book-esque. It was in the backyard of the estate, white chairs, white flowers, chandiliers in the tree overlooking the estate. We had a brass band and guests were greeted with lemonade. Huge iron lanterns created the aisle and white flowers served as the runner. It was perfect!

The reception

It was in a historic barn, and the loft held the main reception. There were huge 700 feet ceilings, with original wood. Since it was Cinco De Mayo, we decided to have some fun and host the cocktail hour on the terrace serving ‘Monica’s Mojitos’ and ‘Rick’s Ritas’.

The guests then found their seats and we served a plated dinner. Even though the reception was in a barn, I wanted to dress it up and make it fancy and festive. My main colors were fuchsia, pink and hints of purple…I know what you’re thinking right now, but it turned out beautifully! We had a band play and danced all night. The guests really enjoyed the photo booth and end-of-night serving of sliders. It was definitely a day to remember and I wouldn’t change a thing!

Monica’s dress search

I knew I wanted a mermaid or trumpet style. However, the ballgowns were everywhere and side tracked me. I started trying them on and liking them as well. Yet, I went back to my first choice of a mermaid style. I tried on probably 100 dresses. I am a very peculiar and know exactly what I like and I couldn’t find ‘the one’. We went everywhere! Finally, my last stop was at Kleinfelds in NYC, it was the last dress I put on and I knew it was the one!!
