Real Wedding | Heather + Keli’i

Keli’i and Heather’s Hawaiian wedding is island style at it’s best. But even if you don’t get say “I do” under a bayan tree (amazing) or have the sweet sounds of ocean waves hitting the shore (so lovely) at your reception, you can still find lots of inspiration here. I love Heather’s color palate…her bridesmaids dresses really “pop” against the soft greens and neutrals of her color scheme. Look for budget friendly and stylish accents too, like the hanging lanterns and yummy cupcake tower. And of course, Heather’s dress — so beautiful, and so perfect for her dream wedding!

Heather & Keli’i | June 26, 2010 | Kauai, Hawaii

How they met

We are both teachers and met when I moved home to Kauai and started teaching at the same high school with classrooms across from each other.

The Ceremony

Our ceremony was held in the late afternoon under a banyan tree with a view of the beach behind us.

The Reception

Our reception was held just a few feet away from the ceremony site in front of the five bedroom Manager’s cottage.  We had a white tent put up with lanterns strung across for lighting.

The moment from her wedding that Heather will never forget

When I finally saw Keli’i as i approached the ceremony and our eyes met.

What made her wedding dress was “the One”

I probably tried on about 10 wedding dresses.  I was determined to spend only $500 on my wedding dress but I never had that feeling that everyone always talks about when you just “know”.  It was only 6 weeks before my wedding when I decided that I wasn’t happy with the dress I had and I was willing to spend the money to have the dress I really wanted.  With the date of my wedding fast approaching, my only choice was to buy a used dress.  This was a bit of a gamble since I would be buying something I hadn’t seen in real life.  But when I put this dress on, I finally felt like a bride in it and I couldn’t wait to wear it on my wedding day.  That’s when I knew it was “the one”.

What made Heather decide to sell her wedding dress?

I bought the dress on this website, and it really deserves to be worn again instead of tucked away in my closet.  The comments I got about this dress were that it was “stunning”.  Plus, I can help another bride like me!
