Real Wedding | Desi & Rob

How he proposed
He had the ring for quite some time trying to propose a few times but circumstances failed until Thursday, 01/22/09. I came home from work and there were a lot of candles all the way to the top of the staircase. I knew something was up…I came in and I saw more candles and the table set for dinner. It was very romantic! He cooked a nice meal and while I was washing my hands in the bathroom he put the engagement ring on the candle closest to me. As soon as I sat down I saw it. Then he took the ring, went down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I couldn’t help it and shed a few tears. We dated for 3 years and lived together for 2 years before he proposed, so it was about time. He often teased me about getting married years before it happened. LOL

The ceremony
Our ceremony was beautiful. We got married at the Orthodox church in Nassau, Bahamas. We arranged shuttle buses to transport our guests. The church was small, but very pretty. Had 2 huge centerpieces by the alter. The ceremony lasted for about 35 min.

The moment Desi will never forget
The weather was awesome not a single cloud, it was 83F. It was the perfect day. That’s one thing that I won’t forget. Also, I will never forget the moment I walked in the door at the church. I was excited and could not wait to walk down the aisle.

The reception
The reception venue was absolutely stunning! We had two different areas, for the cocktail hour and the reception. The “Fathoms” at Atlantis is a huge room with glass windows by the aquarium with lots of fish and underwater ruins. We didn’t know what to expect in terms of decoration. We had interview 3 different flower vendors on the island and went with the most inexpensive one due to our budget. When we saw what they had done we were absolutely blown away! Everything looked perfect; the linens, all the flowers, the candles, everything looked phenomenal!

The band was awesome. They are know as the “Falcons” and are a high energy band, one of the best on the island. The food and service were superb. It couldn’t be any better!

Splurges & Savings
We had open bar for entire reception and 9 piece band. We wanted a small wedding; even though we invited over 100 guest only 45 made it to the event which was a huge help on our budget. We bought our save the date, invitations, menus, RSVP cards, thank you notes, etc. always with coupons and free shipping. We had welcome bags delivered to our guests rooms that we made ourselves once we got to the Bahamas. It had in it coconut rum cake, mints (diy), gum, resort map and wedding weekend details card.

Why she decided to sell her wedding dress?
I truly love my dress and genuinely would love for some other bride to have this gorgeous wedding gown. Keeping the dress would be to selfish of me.

Her advice for other brides
Enjoy every moment of your wedding day from the time you open your eyes that day till you closed them that night. It’s goes by so fast. Don’t sweat the small stuff, have fun no matter what. That will stay with you after the wedding is over. Oh, and…..dance a lot!
