Nicky + Kevin’s special day was a family and food focused event in Southwestern France complete with a flowing and feminine Elizabeth Filmore, Delilah wedding dress. We love Nicky’s relaxed and romantic fishtail braided hair paired with a low crown of wild flowers…Don’t miss the cute crew of kids at this wedding, including the bride and groom’s adorable one-year-old daughter and the incredible French gardens surrounding the ceremony and reception. Enjoy!
The Ceremony We had a stunning humanist ceremony in the middle of the woods, under beautiful magical trees over-looking a large Charente Valley. Neither one of us are religious so we wanted to create a ceremony that was suitable to us – so we wrote our own vows and wrote our own ceremony along with a lovely Humanist Celebrant who works in the local region. Our ceremony was very romantic and there was not a dry eye in the house. I walked down the aisle to “Love Me Tender” sung by a live vocalist and acoustic band, it was very beautiful. We completed the ceremony by cutting a long piece of ribbon resembling the cut from our old lives and stepping into our new one as husband and wife. Our one-year-old daughter was our flower girl and looked like an absolute angel wearing a beautiful gold dress.
The Reception We began our reception with champagne and canopes out in the courtyard, which was absolutely stunning. I am a natural foods Chef and my husband and I met in the kitchen of a Macrobiotic Cooking Course – so we hired an amazing master whole foods Chef as our wedding chef who created an unbelievable meal and canopes all free of refined sugar, dairy and meat (which was a hard task in the middle of rural France!). After the champagne we sat down to beautiful tables set sprinkled in a lavender layer out on the lawn and ate dinner as the sun went down. And when it got dark amazing fire torches lighted us. It was amazing! After speeches we all moved inside to the barn where we danced the night away.
Nicky’s Dress Search I actually didn’t try on many wedding dresses – only about 4. The one I bought was one I had seen in a magazine a year before I bought it and as soon as I saw it I dreamed that this would be my wedding dress, but it was over my budget. So I tried to find another one I loved as much but nothing else was even close. So eventually I said I ought to at least try it on, and as soon as I did I cried. My mother paid for half so that I could afford it and I was so so excited.
How Nicky Felt in Her Wedding Dress Radiant, Elegant, Magical
Why Nicky Decided to Sell Her Wedding Dress The truth is we are now a small family and have a young daughter and want to have more children and I felt I couldn’t just have this extremely valuable piece of clothing sitting away in my cupboard never to be worn again. It was an easy decision – although I’d love to do the wedding day all over again I don’t think I would wear the dress for any other occasion so I felt I wanted to pass it on to someone else who will love it.
