I live in the deep south where a letterpress boutique is hard to come by, though 95% of my clients live around the world and we communicate entirely via email and phone. I have worked with brides from Australia to New York to Paris, from my cozy loft apartment in downtown Laurel, Mississippi. While I studied printmaking at Ole Miss, I didn’t really have the opportunity to use that knowledge until I started designing paper pieces for my own wedding and fell in love with the tactile qualities of letterpress.
The past is something that I feel we should learn from, and the print design of bygone eras has the unique ability to take people back to a simpler, happier time. I find great inspiration in vintage postcards and advertising —— the ephemera of magical and far-away places. I focus on giving every invitation the same attention to aesthetic detail that was so important in vintage design. I feel like modern design is often lacking in character and feeling, so my love for weathered and worn books, boots and quilts is apparent in all the pieces we create.
Though my save-the-date pieces have gained a certain amount of attention, my heart lies in the big show, the invitation suite. My work brings so much joy to my life. I have the privilege of designing paper pieces for people who have found the love of their lives —— I have the honor of describing their relationship in art, and that’s a very real blessing to me.
