Emotional grooms at ceremonies are always so incredibly moving, and you can see John’s feelings all over his face when he sees his bride Jenny for the first time. So touching! This couple celebrated with their loved ones in a barn reception dressed up in a glamorous theme. The black and white details add a touch of unexpected modernism to the rustic space.

The Ceremony
We had a traditional Catholic ceremony held at St. Patrick’s Church in Iowa City. Modern white floral arrangements were a simple addition to the decor that did not take away from the beauty of the church.
The Reception
Our reception was held at Iowa City’s Celebration Farm. My now husband’s father comes from a family of dairy farmers, so this type of venue was especially meaningful to us. Despite the venue being comprised of two barns – one smaller dairy barn held cocktail hour, the larger double round held dinner and dancing – I wanted to steer away from the typical rustic feel that many barn weddings emanate. We tried to stick to a classic but intimate vibe with long harvest tables, candle votives and white floral. The dance floor was also surrounded by amazing white trees placed on high pillars that added a modern touch.
Jenny’s Dress Search
I tried on 5 or 6 dresses, and the one I ended up purchasing was the last one I tried on. As soon as I put the bolero on, I knew it was it. It felt unique and classic, which was definitely the look I was going for. My mom, sister and I couldn’t stop smiling! There was no way this wasn’t it.
