How to Decorate an Intimate Garden Wedding

If you’re planning a garden wedding (or a garden-inspired wedding!) and are wondering how to decorate, allow us to show you. Today’s feature, created by Arkansas-based floral and event designer Zimmerman Events, was set at Moss Mountain farm, an acreage renowned for amazing gardens and hosting beautiful events. The creative team chose to work with the beauty of the natural landscape, allowing it to control the direction for the wedding’s decor and design: “We wanted to create a moment that embodied what his farm has inspired in us – celebrating all that is organic and pure.”

They started off with a warm, soft color palette that effortlessly reflects the environment. Warm rust tones were tucked into the florals on the guest tables, echoing the shades of the garden plants and the brick walls.

Simple decor details were added to the tablescapes, with the goal of highlighting the intimacy of the event without taking away from the garden’s beauty. The perfect way to do this is to focus on beautiful platters of food: artisanal loaves of bread served on wooden boards, charcuterie boards, and bite-sized desserts accented with garden-fresh herbs, all spread over a simple cheesecloth table runner.

Finally, the flowers. Fresh flowers bring life to any setting, and when your setting (or your dream setting) is a garden, then you know you need to let the flowers do the talking. This lush bridal bouquet highlights the warm, rust tones of the tables settings while adding in the peaches-and-cream shades that brides are typically drawn to, adding a little feminine softness. Meanwhile, on the guest tables, the floral centerpieces highlight all that the garden has to offer, with plenty of greenery, touches of herbs, and natural textures.

“Nestled along the Arkansas River is P. Allen Smith’s garden home, Moss Mountain Farm, a magical place known for promoting education, conservation and experiencing what the land provides us. We share in Smith’s desire to let the land be his inspiration, so we wanted to create a moment that embodied what his farm has inspired in us – celebrating all that is organic and pure. We wanted everything from the groom’s boutonnière to the cuisine to express the rich heritage and organic nature of the farm. The warm and soft color palette was chosen to seamlessly coexist with the flora and architecture – we didn’t want anything to distract from the natural beauty of the surroundings. Details were added to further complement this same philosophy. Platters of farm-to-table courses were served on the simple cheesecloth runner that adorned the table. Soft, bistro style lighting was strung overhead transforming the garden party into a romantic evening.”
