Hollyn + Shawn | Ivy & Aster Wedding from Mark Palas Photography

Chosen for its classy and sophisticated atmosphere, Hollyn + Shawn tied the knot amongst close family and friends at the Minneapolis Club in downtown Minneapolis.  I love the added touches of whimsy, like the playful, over-sized pink balloons outside the venue or the mix and matched ballet style floor length bridesmaid’s gowns in pale mint and pink.  So pretty and perfectly compliments Hollyn’s Ivy & Aster soft tulle ballet bodice and gown in blush called ‘Duchess’…Very sweet, enjoy!

The Ceremony
The ceremony was held at the Minneapolis Club in Downtown Minneapolis, chosen for it’s classy and sophisticated atmosphere. We added balloons from shopsweetlulu.com to add a whimsical touch. Our close friend Mike, married us a universal life minister. He was a theater major in college and did a fantastic job. We wanted the ceremony to be personal, we had my cousin and her husband read excerpts from a Sylvia Plath poem and Jules Verne novel that we had sent to each other when Shawn was out of town. A close family friend performed “Forever Young” on his guitar, and then “And Then He Kissed Me” by the Crystals as our recessional song. The ceremony was my favorite part of the day, holding hands and exchanging vows was such an amazing experience we will both never forget.

The Reception
The reception was also at the Minneapolis Club. The wedding party partied in the “Pub” room of the Minneapolis Club while guests enjoyed our signature cocktails: a gimlet for the bride and Brooklyn Brewery Keg beer for Shawn. Dinner consisted of Minnesota walleye and was accompanied by many wonderful speeches including my sister’s limerick in which the last line rhymed with “l’chaim” as we are a primarily Catholic family and Shawn’s is Jewish. The band played “Into the Mystic” for my and Shawn’s first dance and “My Girl” for my Dad and I, which turned into an all-around father-daughter dance. The band learned to play “Hava Nagila” which both families took advantage of dancing to and hoisting us up in chairs. We had a photo booth, late-night pizza, and open bar to keep people “loose” and dancing all night. Everyone went to the late night party but Shawn and I opted for private night with champagne.

Hollyn’s Dress Search
I knew I wanted an A-line dress and something summery for our June wedding. What I didn’t know was that I would be wearing pink! I saw the Ivy and Aster Duchess dress stand out among a sea of white dresses and knew it was perfect. I was a dancer and the dress felt like wearing a glam tutu. The veil and sparkly shoes complete the super-feminine look.

Why Hollyn Decided to Sell Her Wedding Dress
I want someone else to enjoy it as much as I did! I also live in NYC, where my dress would take up too much square footage in our small apartment. I actually became friends with the girl I sold my dress to, and can’t wait to see her wedding photos. She is a brunette like me and the dress will look great on her.
