This is a classic maritime wedding that comes to us from one of the oldest towns in America, Oxford, Maryland. The nautical theme, yacht club venue and the fresh + preppy navy and white color scheme is such a complete look…bold striped ribbons, sailboats on the cake, and striped paper straws. Of course my favourite, is Bridget’s sophisticated Vera Wang gown called Joan. I love every detail Joan has to offer: modified A-line style, silk organza and duchess satin with horizontal bias cut bands and bows down the back. So good. And what’s more, the polished sheen of the organza stripe pattern in this gown is so subtle, yet matches the whole vibe and feel of Bridget + Dan’s gorgeous nautical inspired day. Perfect!

The Ceremony
Our ceremony took place at St. Paul’s Church. It is a charming, small white church in the center of town with the most beautiful stained glass windows. It was so picturesque and the perfect setting for our afternoon wedding. We were actually married by my mom, which made the ceremony very special and personal. It was such a wonderful moment to be surrounded by our closest family and friends and to have my mom be the one to make our union official.
The Reception
Our reception took place at the Tred Avon Yacht Club. The best part about the reception being on the water was that we got to arrive by boat. The entire bridal party went from the church to the reception in a beautiful Hinckley picnic boat. Our photography followed in a separate boat so she was able to capture beautiful images of the wedding party on the water. During our reception our guests got to witness the spectacular views of the sun setting over the water, dined on delicious food prepared by the Yacht Club’s chef and also danced the night away thanks to a great performance by the band. For dessert we had a cake as well as an ice cream bar set up by the local creamery in town. It was very unique and made the dessert time extra special for our guests. Our wedding had a very nautical feel to it. We kept our color scheme to classic navy and white and incorporated small nautical touches like striped ribbons that bound together utensils, sailboats on the cake, and striped paper straws in our signature cocktails. When the party was over, my husband and I enjoyed a sparkler send off as we once again boarded the boat and ended our evening out on the water.
Bridget’s Dress Search
I knew I wanted a very classic wedding dress. I honestly wasn’t sure if I wanted more of an A-line fit or a ball gown, something strapless or something with sleeve coverage. During my initial appointments at bridal salons I kept a very open mind so that I could try on a variety of styles to narrow down my search (it was also SO fun to get to try on so many different designs!). As soon as I tried on the Vera Wang Joan gown, however, I knew my search was over. It was as if the dress was made for me. It had subtle stripes which was perfect for our nautical themed wedding and the grosgrain ribbon bows down the back added that extra touch that made the dress so special.

Why Bridget Decided to Sell Her Wedding Dress
I decided to sell my dress because I’m hoping I can make someone else’s dream of wearing a Vera Wang gown on their wedding day a reality. It is a gorgeously designed dress in excellent condition being sold at an affordable price. I loved this gown but in the end I only wore it for a few hours. It deserves to be showcased once more on someone else’s beautiful day.
