For the ceremony itself, Jasper rode down the aisle on a beach cruiser from the hotel; inside, I could hear the cheers from the crowd as he rode in! One of our oldest and dearest friends officiated and another writer friend created a piece just for us. It was important to us that we write our own vows; we created “Five Promises” for one another. I have to admit that I didn’t even make it through the first one before I teared up! We printed our programs on 12×18 newsprint to create a poster for guests to take home and remember the day. Finally, to highlight the celebration, we tied kazoos to the program and we walked back down the aisle to a cacophony of kazoos!
“Love is the ultimate outlaw. It just won’t adhere to any rules. The most any of us can do is to sign on as its accomplice. Instead of vowing to honor and obey, maybe we should swear to aid and abet. That would mean that security is out of the question. The words “make” and “stay” become inappropriate. My love for you has no strings attached. I love you for free.” – Tom Robbins
