Marly + Erich | October 4, 2014 | Malibu, California | Dress Listing: Vera Wang, Bride Wars
The Ceremony
We were married on October 4, 2014 in Malibu, California. The wedding was bohemian-glam. We rented a property in the vineyard district of Malibu for the weekend and had a three-day wedding with just our closest friends and family. My personal style is very bohemian-mod, but once I found this princess ball gown, I knew it would take a lot of creativity to fuse the two ideas. And I did just that by introducing bridesmaids dresses designed by For Love and Lemons, by accessorizing with Samantha Wills, and by spontaneously deciding to add flash tattoos to the bridal party (champagne during hair and makeup may have influenced that last addition, but it was a hit!). Our ceremony took place at sunset in the garden with an overview of the Malibu canyons. My mom was the officiant, our family and friends said a blessing during our vows, and when we kissed I-do confetti poppers exploded and fuchsia confetti filled the sky.
The Reception
After cocktail hour, guests ordered Mexican food from the famous Border Grill Food Truck. The tables were set with dip dyed the table runners and hand painted bamboo flatware that my bridal party and I personally crafted. The menus were designed by my husband and the flowing and whimsical center pieces were done by Holly Flora- a flower-genius! The entire day was blissful, from our morning hike together to shake the day’s nerves off to the end of the night when we were striking silly poses at the flipbooth station. But I have to say, hands down, my favorite memory of the day was our first dance. Our first dance was to “Fools Rush In” by Elvis Presley, played off a record player with the genuine scratches and hum you can only get from a real-record-player. Half way through the song a fuse blew and the sound went off. Without a skipping a beat- our guests began singing the song to us. Even though it was a complete accident, most the guests assumed it was planned, and it was, without a doubt, the most romantic moment of my life so far.
Marly’s Dress Search
I tried on so many dresses. I drove hundreds of miles to dress shops to see different designers. I searched the Internet and went wild at designer trunk sales. I’m a stylist- so this dress had to be a memory maker without breaking the bank. Funny enough, this was the third dress I ever tried on. As the sales woman at Vera Wang was zipping up my dress- I knew- this was the dress. It’s a funny thing when you find your dress, it’s like meeting your soul mate. Your heart skips a beat, you feel incredible, you can see yourself walking down the isle- and you can’t get it out of your head! Even when it’s way out of your budget! So three months after finding and leaving my dress behind, I returned to Vera Wang. I returned confident that I could afford this dress because websites like PreownedWeddingDresses.com exist. I would have bought this dress if it had been available on your website. I am proud to be selling this dress, supporting sustainability through recycled fashion and supporting affordable fashion for other brides like me out there.
How Marly Felt in Her Wedding Dress
When wearing my dress I felt sexy, confident, and radiant. I felt like a bride.
Why Marly Decided to Sell Her Wedding Dress
I spent many nights pouring over the PreOwnedWeddingDresses.com website and other sites looking for this dress before biting the bullet and buying it at Vera Wang. I know that another bride out there is probably in the same dilemma I was, and I know this dress will find her.
I am selling this dress because I believe in sustainability through fashion and consumer choices. This is just another way to contribute to this cause. I am selling this dress so that another bride can afford her dream dress. I am selling this dress because I believe in a life of simplicity and fewer material items – besides, where would I store such a gloriously large piece?!! And lastly, because I trust that my daughters will posses a taste, style, and voice of their own.
