When you’re a megastar in the bridal world, the best way to grow your company is to launch multiple brands. That’s the case for Stella York, an Australian brand owned by internationally-renowned Essense of Australia.
This sexy-glam brand has made a major impact around the world in less than a decade—and with a powerhouse family name on their side, they won’t slow down any time soon.
How It All Began for Stella York
Before we look at how Stella York began, we need to go back to the roots. Chief Creative Officer Martine Harris decided to launch her own fashion company with her husband Wayne in 1992. They merged her experience with bridal design and his talent for business to create Essense Designs.
From there, Essense of Australia was born as their first label, followed by Martina Liana. It wasn’t until years later that the duo felt they wanted to expand even more.
How Stella York Got into the Bridal Industry
In 2013, Stella York joined the Essence of Australia family. True to the heart and soul of Essense of Australia, the Stella York brand is designed for brides of all shapes, sizes, and budgets.
What sets this brand apart from the others is that a Stella York bride is looking for a show stopping dress. They want to be a “stella”, which is Latin for “star”. Think glamour, drama, sophistication, and romantic whimsy.
These gowns are fun and playful (with a hint of sexy) and complement the bride’s attitude, style, and spirit.

The Stella York brand may not have a major celebrity following, but it did catch the eye of Taylor Swift’s BFF Abigail Anderson. For her Martha’s Vineyard nuptials, Anderson chose a blush fit-and-flare gown. She looks absolutely stunning!
