Let’s say your first wedding was an etiquette disaster for whatever reason. If you’re looking to avoid the same thing happening at your second wedding (and who wouldn’t), use the following etiquette guide “for dummies” to ensure a seamless event everyone in attendance will love.
Guest List
Determine how many guests you can invite to your wedding by estimating how much money you can spend on food per person. Establish a guest count and stick with it. It also helps to create a guest list, have your partner do the same, and then combine it to create a master list. Go over the people you absolutely must invite, then the people you should invite, and finally the people you could invite. Don’t feel obligated to invite co-workers, and determine whether your wedding should be a child-free affair. Children still count towards the final number, after all!
Wedding Invitations
Spell out professional and military titles, such as Doctor and General, and use full names when addressing the invites. Be sure to spell out street names as well, such as Avenue and Boulevard, and do not include registry information. Include accommodations and your wedding website on separate cards. Never hand-write anything on the invites, and make it abundantly clear who is invited to the wedding.
Registry
Make an appointment with the registry consultant at each store you want to register with. Create a list of items with different price ranges so your guests don’t feel forced to spend a small fortune. They will really appreciate it! Add “gift cards welcome” if you want, and don’t forget to discuss the registry with your partner before the thing goes live. Keep a meticulously-detailed list of your gifts as you receive them for easy thank-you note writing.
