Wanting to get it right the second time ‘round is a common theme among engaged couples who have been married before. The “get it right” theme applies to planning as well, such as your wedding invitations. If your wedding invitations from your first wedding were less-than-great and you want to ensure everything is fine this time, use the following advice and tips to help you out.

The Three ‘W’s

Whatever wording you decide on, make sure you include the three ‘W’s:

  • Who: Include your full name, your hubby-to-be’s full name, and the names of the hosts, if applicable.
  • When: Make it clear when your wedding is happening. List the month, date, and year.
  • Where: Feature the full address of your wedding location, including the zip code.

Additional Details

Wedding etiquette states the invitations should stick to the key details of your event, however you may choose to add information guests will find helpful. Such details include:

  • Attire: Briefly discuss what type of attire your guests should go for. Is your wedding black-tie? Themed? A garden or beach party? Don’t leave guests guessing, unless you want to get a whole lot of emails and phone calls.
  • Map: Include a link to a map, or an actual map. Out-of-town guests will appreciate you letting them know where the wedding is happening.
  • Accommodations: Provide hotel information, particularly if you reserved a block of rooms. This gives them plenty of time to book.
  • Activities: List any activities your wedding will feature, such as dancing, a casual rehearsal dinner, one heck of an after party, etc.

Timing

Knowing when to send your invitations is another key etiquette tip. Invitation send-off dates go something like this:

  • Save The Date Cards: Six to eight months before your wedding.
  • Invitations: Six to eight weeks before your wedding.
  • Destination Wedding Invites: Three months before your wedding.

Request RSVPs by a certain date to make the planning process easier on yourself. Good luck, and have fun!
