In the past, winter weddings were the exception rather than the rule, but that has certainly changed. Today, they are extremely popular, so you are just as likely to be invited to one in the winter months, as you are in the summer. Which is why we think you will all enjoy this roundup of the types of wedding outfits you can expect to see in the shops in the next few weeks.
Separates Are In
When most of us go into a wedding boutique, the first thing we tend to do is to make a beeline for the dresses. Why we do that is a bit of a mystery, after all a top and skirt works just as well as a dress does.
This year, the designers seem to have decided that this is the case, so most have come up with a good choice of separates as well as some lovely dresses. Fitted jackets paired with a range of different styles of skirts makes it easy to find an outfit that is 100% right for either a formal or an informal wedding. All you need to do is to add in a nice top and some decent closed in style shoes, to be comfortable, warm and look fantastic.
An Extra Layer of Protection From The Weather
If you have the budget, it is also worth considering buying a shawl or light Mac to wear over the top, should the weather be particularly inclement. For a winter wedding, layers are definitely the best answer.
It may also be worth investing in a fold up umbrella that is small enough to fit into your handbag. That way if it rains or snows your hair will stay dry.
Glamorous Dresses
If you really want to wear a dress, you can easily do so, because there is still plenty of choice available. Luxurious fabrics are certainly the order of the day. Like last year, lace is everywhere, and satin finishes feature in most ranges.
It is nice to see that long dresses are still on the racks. These look very elegant, with the added benefit of keeping you warm. It is also good to see that the maxi dress has stood the test of time, and is still in vogue – for the third year running.
There are also some fantastic little black dresses available, which are a great option if you are only attending the evening reception. By far the nicest ones we have seen are the mid length body con styled ones, which are currently available in a range of different fabrics, and finishes.
Versatile Outfits
Perhaps the thing we like most about these winter wedding outfits is their versatility. It is not difficult to buy something that you can end up wearing more than once, which means that they represent fantastic value for money.
For example, some of the lacy dresses we spoke about above would be perfect for wearing to your office Christmas party. Worn without the jacket they could also work really well for a spring wedding, especially if you go for a neutral shade rather than one of the darker dresses.
