Wedding Attire: Helpful Tips

You received your invite, you bought a gift off the registry or wrote a check, and now it’s time to decide what you’re going to wear. A wedding is a great excuse to get fancy, and it’s always fun to see everyone dressed up and looking fabulous. If you are wondering what the heck you should wear to your friend’s or family member’s upcoming nuptials, read on to get the help you need.

Invitation

Your first clue into what to wear to the wedding is to look at the invitation. Is it so formal you are surprised it didn’t come with its own little tux? Are you looking at a humorous wedding invite asking you to come see your friends get hitched? The tone and look of the invitation gives you a big honkin’ clue as to what you should wear to the wedding.

Location

The location of the wedding also plays a significant role in what you should wear. For example, is it outdoors, such as on the beach or at a beautiful farm? Avoid high heels that will sink into the sand or grass. Keep the wind in mind as well, unless you want to be remembered at the wedding for a not-great reason. Temperature is another essential–if you are flying to a destination wedding in a tropical location, wearing a formal suit or dark colors is not the best idea. Think linens and light-colored clothing instead.

Rent Vs Buy

Once you have the formality of the wedding figured out, it’s time to determine if you should rent or buy your ensemble. Renting tuxedos is standard, however it may not fit as well as you like. Rent The Runway is a great option, as the website is littered with gorgeous designer dresses and suits. You can also simply wear something you already own if it suits the tone and style of the wedding.

If you are still unsure of how you should dress, ask the bride or a member of the bridal party. Someone will be happy to help you!
