Emily and Beau are ballet dancers, and they met at Ballet West in Salt Lake City! Their summer wedding at La Caille Weddings and Events, a restaurant and vineyard nestled in the mountains of Utah, was a floral extravaganza in the beautiful garden room. Emily’s vision for their celebration was a romantic evening wedding with a lot of vintage flair. She choose brilliant purple, pink and red flowers to contrast with their neutral attire. The bride made a photo display of the two of them over the years out of old windows she found in thrift shops, and each place card holder featured skeleton keys. Emily’s uncle (and also her godfather) officiated their wedding, which was especially meaningful because he married her parents more than 30 years ago. Many of the couple’s friends and coworkers at Ballet West contributed to making their wedding day an incredible experience, and Pepper Nix Photography captured their day on film with a Hasselblad, as well as digitally!
A romantic garden room wedding in Sandy, UT
On Tuesday, October 1st, Beau and I flew to Chicago with all our friends at Ballet West to perform at the Chicago Auditorium Theater. It was the tour that kicked off Ballet West’s 50th anniversary season and proved to be very exciting and successful. That tour will always hold special meaning for me and Beau. We arrived in Chicago in the afternoon and had the entire evening to ourselves to settle in, relax and explore the city a bit before a busy week of rehearsing and performing. Beau had told me before we left Salt Lake City to pack a nice outfit because he wanted to take me out on a date while we were there. I figured it would just be a fun, casual date of eating diner food, walking around Chicago, and enjoying each other’s company. Beau had a more elaborate plan. I was rooming with my sister Paige in Chicago so Beau was able to be a little sneaky before everything unfolded. He told me that we had a reservation at a restaurant so we needed to get ready quickly, and while I was unpacking my suitcase he sent me a text asking me to pack an overnight bag because I wasn’t going to be staying at the hotel that night. Suddenly I got very nervous! I thought all the planning must mean something important, and since we’d been together for about five happy years I had a feeling that a proposal was part of Beau’s plan! My mind started racing and my heart started pounding and I hoped that I would make it through the night without having a heart attack from all the excitement! We ended up going to the Everest Restaurant that overlooked the city. It was quite the dining experience. We didn’t really know what we were eating or if we were eating it properly but at least we were dressed for the occasion. I had never been to a restaurant before that had such a pristine and well-choreographed way of serving people.
After dinner, we went back to our hotel that Beau had arranged for us so I could change my shoes before we took a stroll. It was a beautiful night. We walked for a bit and ended up near the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, a huge outdoor theatre where we had performed the last time we were in Chicago. I remember Beau seemed very interested in all the people walking around us, even the people who were far away but who might have ventured near us. I was wondering if he was changing his mind and thinking this wasn’t the time and place for a proposal… or maybe I was wrong all along! Eventually we stood directly in front of the stage that was all lit up in purples and reds with no one around, just the sounds of the city and the cool evening breeze, and Beau said a few words before kneeling in front of me. I was so happy my head was spinning. – Emily
