Torpedo Factory Art Center Wedding

Martha and Andrew’s fresh, modern and meaningful fall wedding at the Torpedo Factory Art Center was all about making their guests feel at home! Together, they created a fun wedding celebration complete with live music from Andrew’s dad and a surprise serenade from Martha’s dad! Their color palette favored simple, classic shades of cream and navy with pops of copper and greenery to enliven the industrial space. Rachael Foster Photography captured their day!

A modern and classic art center wedding in Alexandria, VA

Martha and Andrew were friends in high school, but only began dating in their 20s. On their 10-year anniversary, he surprised her with a gorgeous sapphire engagement ring, and they quickly began planning a DC-area wedding from their home base in Brooklyn. Martha and Andrew both work in the arts (she manages exhibitions at a large art gallery on the Upper East Side in Manhattan and he’s a music producer and sound engineer based out of Brooklyn). They wanted a unique space that would allow for a lot of personal touches for both the ceremony and reception. Martha says, “Aesthetics and music were really important to us going into the planning process. Andrew’s Dad also heads a DC area band called the VI-Kings that cover 60s British invasion hits, and we wanted to involve them in the reception.”

The Torpedo Factory offered an artistic venue that would allow space for both a live band and a DJ plus the flexibility to make the space their own. My favorite part of the reception was when Martha’s dad surprised everyone by joining the band on stage to serenade her. – Rachael
