Wedding invitations are one of the first items that your friends and family see in regards to your wedding so it is important to set the right impression. In order to do that here are 10 things you should consider before purchasing your wedding invitations.
1. Price
Unfortunately, everyone has a budget and a budget will help determine what type of invitations you should look for as well as if any additional stationery is something you need to take into consideration. If your budget will only allow for invites on photo paper there is not need to look at higher end cardstock invites.
2. What style of invitation
There are many different styles of invitations you can choose. There are square, tea, traditional, folded, and pocket style wedding invitations. Narrowing down the style your are after will make it much easier to focus on finding a design that fits the style you would like to use.
3. Type of paper
You might not believe it but there are many different types of paper you can use on wedding invitations. If are need a low cost invite you can use a photo paper which will be about half the cost of card stock but you will be limited to a single sided invitation and the invite will be very flimsy. If you decide to use a cardstock most stationery companies will provide these different choices.
- Matte: A matte cardstock will have no finish on the paper which means it will have the same finish as regular printer paper except it will be much thinker.
- Gloss: Different companies have different types of gloss cardstock. The most common type of gloss will have a slight shine to the paper something similar to the page of a magazine. Other stationery providers have a high gloss which will have a laminated finish similar to a postcard.
- Shimmer: A shimmer cardstock is also known as a metallic or pearl cardstock. This type of cardstock has a metallic finish applied to the card, which gives the card a unique look and slight shimmer in the light.
4. Turn Around Time
With a wedding being very time sensitive it is important to know the turn around time of the wedding invite company so you are not late on sending out your invites.
5. Photos or No Photos
It is nice to include a photo of you and your fiancé so your friends and family can see what a beautiful couple you make. However with that being said many couples like to include a photo separately instead of having the photo printed directly on the card. So deciding what you prefer before starting the invitation hunt can narrow down your selection and making finding the perfect card a little easier.
6. Envelopes
If you would like colored envelopes double check that your stationery provider offers them. Many wedding invitation companies will not offer colored envelopes.
7. Return Address Printing
Make it easy on your guests and have your RSVP envelopes printed with your return address. This will save your guests time and ensure that the address is correct.
8. Enclosure Cards
If you have additional information you need to give to some guest and not others then enclosure cards are a great way to do it. Some stationery companies may not offer matching enclosures for their invites so if you need enclosure cards double check that your provider offers matching enclosure cards.
9. Accessories
Wedding invitation accessories such as logo squares and bellybands are a great way to add a splash of color as well as set apart your invitation set. Double check that your stationery provider offers matching accessories incase you decide to add something a little extra something to our invites.
