An elegant DIY wedding in Dickerson, MD

On the day of Amanda and Dave’s wedding at the Strong Mansion, temperatures neared 100ºF, and the night before, a derecho (a straight-line wind storm that usually accompanies fast-moving severe thunderstorms) knocked out all the power to hundreds of thousands of area homes and businesses, including their wedding venue. Despite no power and incredible heat and humidity, Amanda was determined that the show would go on – after all, she didn’t put all her effort into planning her wedding and designing her bouquets and floral arrangements for nothing! Amanda designs and creates wedding florals as a side job, and she decided she would make all of her own for her wedding, as well as the centerpiece for the escort card table. With 3 generators brought in to run the kitchen and power the tent lighting at Strong Mansion, the evening couldn’t have been more beautiful and magical. Somehow the weather felt a little cooler and the humidity felt a little lower, and Amanda and Dave and all of their guests celebrated with smiles and laughter all evening long while Laurie Bracewell Photography captured every moment.
