Shakespearean Engagement Party

Shakespeare’s story of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” inspired this romantic styled engagement party for real-life couple Heather and Eric by Brittny Rene Photo and Video and Gold Leaf Floral. As summer transitions into fall in the South, this team of Alabama vendors wanted to embrace the idea of dreamy summer nights that collide with the whimsical woodlands of autumn. The decor included hanging floral orbs, purple love potions and parchment with hand-lettered lines from the play, while the menu inspiration was taken from the fairy queen Titania’s line to bring purple grapes, berries, green figs and honey. Finally, the night ended with a celebratory honey and lemon cake with a cream cheese icing topped with berries, figs, honeysuckle and edible purple flowers, like the magical “love in idleness” in the play. Pairing with the dessert and highlighting more of the summer berry theme was a signature Blackberry Bourbon Lemonade “potion” with rosemary garnish. Other details included hand-lettered leaf place cards on honey jar favors, blackberry ice cubes in vintage flutes, watercolored night sky invitations with floral envelope liners, and wearable flowers for the bride-to-be. The poetic words of Shakespeare, a backdrop dripping with florals, and the twinkle of candlelight turned an ordinary patio party into a dream that no potion could force you to forget.
