Amelia and Tommy were married in a destination mountain lodge wedding in July at the Red Pine Lodge at the Canyons Resort. Guests rode on a private gondola from the base of the mountain up to 8,000 feet! Having delicious food and drink offerings was very important to them, and the Canyons was perfect with their farm-to-table philosophy. Logan Walker Photography captured their incredible celebration!
A rustic summer mountain lodge wedding in Park City, UT
I can honestly say that being married to one another is something that me, and my now husband, Thomas, have both wanted from the beginning of our relationship. That being said, just as most other little girls, I have been dreaming up what I wanted my wedding to be like for my entire life. The extra special part of this story is that I knew since I was sixteen that I wanted to be with Thomas, as we are high school sweethearts. Post high school we ventured off to Purdue University together where he studied Mechanical Engineering and I, Hospitality and Tourism Management. My studies at Purdue were actually part of what influenced our wedding destination. While in college, I took an internship in Park City that forever changed my outlook on life. The overall beauty of the mountains is spectacular. Thomas came to visit me while I was there, and we both attribute spending time in Park City as changing our ambitions in life. If you have not had the opportunity to visit Park City, go. Everything about the old mining town is remarkable. From the gorgeous mountains, to the tasty restaurants and beyond friendly people it is just the perfect place. When Thomas finally asked me to marry him in the summer of 2012, we both knew that Park City was exactly where we wanted our wedding to take place.
Old Town Chapel is a quaint Catholic church with tons of history. It is actually the oldest Catholic church in the state of Utah! This was the perfect place for me to be married as I love history/antiques and all of the memories that go along with. Our florist did a remarkable job of bringing our outdoorsy feel inside for our ceremony as I hope you can appreciate in the photos. Since our ceremony was inside, we wanted our entire reception outside. With the clever advice of our talented photographer, we really turned the Red Pine Lodge outdoor areas to enchanting spaces. While we did experience rain on our wedding day, which I barely even remember it happening from being so wrapped up in how happy I was, all of our wonderful vendors still managed to pull everything off without letting me stress a bit! We hosted our cocktail hour on the Red Pine Bridge, where trickling water from the mountains runs underneath. We had our dinner under a tent and then had bistro lights hung in the middle of the grassy space so that we could dance the night away under the stars in the mountains.
Stepping off the gondola on the day of our wedding I literally was beside myself that every single detail turned out just how I wanted. From the placement of the name cards and napkins on the dinner tables, to the way that the candles were stacked at cocktail hour, to the textures of the different fabrics of linens, to having a live band set up on a mountain, it was all perfect. Not only was the setting a dream, but getting to have our family and the best of friends was one of the most powerful feelings I am sure we will ever experience. As I mentioned, the details were a really important piece to me as I wanted everything to feel personal. My grandparents, sadly could not be there to celebrate my day so one of my best friends made charms to place in my bouquet as a remembrance. My father’s touching speech about how my Nana would be eating up every moment of the evening will forever hold a spot in my heart. I had special ribbon made to tie my bridesmaids bouquets in, as well as mine with a saying that my husband always whispers after saying good night to me, “love you to the moon and back.” As some guests noticed my bride on my cake topper had brown hair, rather than blonde, it was the same topper my parents had used over 30 years ago on their wedding day. Watching my aunt, who is battling cancer, get to enjoy s’mores over a fire pit with all of her family all were part of the moments that made our day irreplaceable.
This wedding was a true experience. One that I will always cherish and appreciate the efforts of all that attended in getting there. Having those memories forever with me of dancing with my new husband, family and friends literally on top of a mountain while sipping “Moscow Moose’s” will always be some of the best in my life. – Amelia
