With their shared love of wine, Emma and Zach knew a vineyard would be the ideal place to exchange vows! Though they are stationed in Texas, they chose Breaux Vineyards in Virginia to celebrate with loved ones. Designed Perfectly Events made sure their vision was perfectly realized, and Erin Brennan Photography captured their beautiful day!

The Proposal
“During the week of July 4, 2014, my parents rented a house at Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri to celebrate my law school graduation and our nation’s independence. Zach could not leave the area while he was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood for training so we brought the celebration to him. The Fourth of July is a significant date for us because we met on that day four years prior in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. That evening in Missouri we were sitting around a fire at the edge of the lake watching the fireworks and trying to find the big dipper. There were some trees blocking our view of the sky so Zach suggested that we go out on the dock for a better look. While looking up I kept repeating, “I found it, I found it,” and then when I turned around I realized that he was down on one knee asking me to marry him. Not believing what was happening at the moment I just said, “but I found the big dipper,” and once reality set in I said yes!”
About The Wedding
“As enthusiasts of local wine, we knew we wanted to get married at a vineyard in northern Virginia and utilize the winery theme in our decor. Breaux Vineyards is the perfect backdrop for a romantic vineyard wedding and is also located near our families, which allows us to visit whenever we’re home. However we didn’t know where to start when it came to making all the finer details come together so we really trusted our vendors’ suggestions in designing our wedding.”
The Attire
“Choosing my wedding dress was the easiest part for me since I knew I wanted as much lace as possible. Zach’s attire was also easy to put together because he wore his uniform. Choosing the wedding party’s attire was a bit more difficult because we were not able to shop together. Thankfully members of our wedding party were willing to go to numerous stores and send countless pictures to help us decide on attire that would look great on everyone.”
Favorite Moments
“The entire day was filled with memorable moments but one of our favorite parts of the day is when we had our first look. We debated on whether or not to have a first look before the ceremony but ultimately decided that we wanted to have a moment to ourselves before becoming husband and wife.”
The Cake & Flowers
“We had a small simple cake as well as a variety of cupcake flavors. To cut the cake we used an Army officer saber that I got for Zach as a wedding gift.
For the flowers, we requested soft tones such as ivory and blush with pops of coral and a little greenery. Somehow, J. Morris flowers was able to take that vague description and create the most beautiful arrangements. We utilized wine barrels and wine bottles for our flower arrangements to tie in the winery theme.”
Special Details & Heirlooms
“Having the help of our families and my bridesmaids throughout the planning process was a life saver. My mom created a “Mr & Mrs” sign out of wine corks and my dad spent many afternoons painting the wine bottles that were used for our centerpieces. My bridesmaids also spent countless hours making signs and programs for our wedding since my artistic ability is limited. The diamond in my engagement ring was passed down from Zach’s mom.”
