Katie and Cameron’s fall wedding in northern Minnesota was a beautiful celebration with a delicate palette of blush, rose gold, champagne, gold and ivory. Lots of lush blooms, greenery and candles helped create an intimate atmosphere at the Bemidji Town and Country Club. Schrage Photography captured their day!
A sweet romantic fall Minnesota wedding in Bemidji
The Proposal
We had been dating for 5 years and I had been begging Cam to pop the question for awhile. On May 20th, 2016 he took me out fishing to our usual walleye fishing spot and had me throw the anchor so we could fish close to shore. When I turned back around, he was down on one knee with the most beautiful ring asking me to spend the rest of my life with him. It was so perfect. To top it off, he had a secret photographer on shore that was able to capture the moment!
About the Wedding
We wanted to have a romantic, elegant, intimate wedding and chose colors of blush, ivory, rose gold, and champagne. Our ceremony took place at a local ski lodge and overlooked the ski hills with beautiful fall colors as our background. The ceremony space was a beautiful open room with vaulted ceilings and exposed beams. Our reception took place at the Country Club and the view overlooks Lake Bemidji. The reception space was decorated with blush, champagne, and gold. There were many candles spread throughout the tables to help create a romantic setting.
The Attire
My dress was an Allure Couture fit and flare style ivory lace dress with a champagne underlay and lots of beading with sequins. It had cap sleeves and an open keyhole back. My bridesmaids’ dresses were all mismatched blush dresses, some with full sequins, some with partial sequins, and some chiffon. I was a little nervous about having all the dresses be different and wasn’t able to see them all together until the wedding day, but I thought it turned out beautiful.
The groom and groomsmen wore charcoal tuxes and the groom wore an ivory vest with matching tie. The groomsmen wore champagne vests with matching ties. Our ushers had charcoal pants and an ivory shirt with champagne bowties. Our ring bearer had charcoal pants, ivory shirt, and suspenders with a bowtie.
Favorite Moments
I loved getting ready with all of my bridesmaids. We all had matching robes and our hairstylists came to us in our hotel, so it was fun just to relax and sip mimosas before starting the festivities.
I think both mine and Cam’s favorite part of the day was our first look. He hadn’t seen my dress yet, so I was so excited to see his reaction when he first turned around and saw me. That moment was filled with so much emotion and that’s when it really hit me that it was our wedding day. My other favorite part of the day was our first dance. We danced to “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran and even though there were 200+ people watching us, I felt like we were the only two in the room.
The Flowers & Cake
The bridal bouquet consisted of dahlias, garden roses, hydrangeas, eucalyptus, and other small blush and pink flowers. All of the flowers were shades of light pink and ivory. The bridesmaid bouquets were smaller versions of the bride’s and the boutonnieres also contained similar flowers. We also had a beautiful arrangement of flowers on the arch that the ceremony took place under. This also contained dahlias, garden roses, hydrangeas, and eucalyptus.
For our reception, some tables consisted of white lanterns with a ring of eucalyptus around them. We also had 10 tall centerpieces that contained large bouquets of greenery mixed with small pink flowers. I loved our wedding flowers and KD Floral did an amazing job making it look like a fairytale.
Our wedding cake was a small, two layer cake. The top layer was red velvet and the bottom layer was vanilla with custard filling. The frosting was cream cheese and we had a few blush flowers on it for decoration. We also had a custom made cake topper from Etsy. It was small, but we really just wanted a cake to cut for pictures and to keep for our first anniversary. Our cupcakes were made by my mother-in-law and we had almond, chocolate salted caramel, red velvet, Boston cream pie, cookie dough, and carrot cake. I completely forgot to eat one at the reception, but we heard they were delicious!
Favors & Special Details
My family got together after my bridal shower and turned 100 lbs of apples into 220 4-ounce jars of apple butter. My mother-in-law also got a bunch of friends together and made cute stamped tags to tie around the jars. Our favors turned out great and we’ve had so many compliments on how good the apple butter is.
I also downloaded templates for our programs, reception thank-yous, and reserved signs from Etsy so I could print them out at home and cut them out. We did have a bakery make our wedding cake, but my mother-in-law made all of our cupcakes (all 6 different kinds!) and they turned out delicious! I also made my necklace using pearls from different family members.
