Katie was a very enthusiastic DIY bride – she’s a graphic designer and her summer wedding in Chicago was filled with awesome purple details, including her own invitation design and dresses that the bridesmaids picked out themselves. She and Dan got married at Salvage One, and Dawn E. Roscoe Photography was there to capture it all!
Katie says, I would have to say the dancing was my favorite [moment of the wedding day], though Danny and I kept our first dance a surprise; we wiggled and danced our hearts out to “I Got You (I Feel Good)” by James Brown. BUT, then our friends and family surprised us and flash mobbed our wedding to “Firework” by Katy Perry – it was perfect! Now every time I hear that song I think of all those people throwing their hands in the air for us!
I made/printed my own invitations. I am a graphic designer and the invites were the most important thing to me. I printed them on vintage handkerchiefs to keep with the antique feel of our venue, Salvage One. We borrowed my grandparent’s cake topper for our cake (which I made)! It was very special to me that I had pieces of other people’s love present on our day! I also had antique pins that I borrowed from my mom, my mother-in-law and my best friend’s mom woven into my bouquet; it was so beautiful and personal to me. Our friend is a ceramist so he made all of the centerpiece dishes, which we later gave to our bridal party as part of their gift!
