What Not to Wear to a Wedding For Guys

For men, it is easy to know what you should wear to a wedding – a clean suit and shirt, a tie, some cufflinks and maybe a couple of other simple accessories for men like a lapel pin or a pocket square. The real issue is figuring out what not to wear.
The first easy way to determine this is to study the invitation and check for the dress code. Always oblige to this and wear something suitable. Your level of formality is dependent on this and certain things you will not be able to get away with.
However, there are some overriding rules about what not to wear that are applicable to every single wedding occasion. Keep reading to make sure you don’t fall victim!

Hats

Hats, in general, are a big no-no for formal occasions like a wedding and this is especially true for casual hats like baseball caps and beanies.
Fancier hats like a fedora can sometimes be acceptable, especially if the wedding has a vintage theme or is taking place outside on a very hot day, but if you’re going to be indoors all day then it’s best to leave the hat at home!

Sunglasses

Once again, if the wedding you’re attending is taking place outdoors in the sunshine, then a smart pair of sunglasses are acceptable. No colored rims or patterns! A simple pair of aviators or wayfarers are the best choice to make.
If you’re attending a wedding indoors, or the sun isn’t out, then sunglasses tend to look a little ridiculous and they should be avoided.

Bright colours

Just as women have a rule not to upstage the bride, men should also not try to take any attention away from the groom.
Of course this may seem a little ridiculous, but one way to do this is by not wearing any bright colours or garish patterned clothing or accessories. This is also a good way to stay looking stylish too!

Ill-fitting clothes

It is all well and good having an expensive suit, but it counts for nothing if it doesn’t fit properly. Tailoring is key and it can also mean that you can get away with a slightly cheaper suit, as long as you have had it adjusted to your body.
Be sure to tailor your suit at a time close to the wedding so that you are not left with any nasty surprises when you get dressed in the morning!
Well-fitting trousers are also important, they shouldn’t be overly tight around the backside or crotch area, and they also shouldn’t be too short or too long.

Too Much Jewelry

Some simple accessories are always a nice way to round off your wedding outfit and look well put together. However, over accessorizing is definitely a mistake that should be avoided.
What is meant by this is wearing a stack of bracelets and layering up with multiple necklaces. All of these accessories work best when you have one great piece, instead of trying too much at one time.
Simple jewelry also works best too. Earrings for men can look smart, but steer clear of eye-catching hoops and stick to a simple pair of studs.
