Aubrey and Jake’s summer wedding in Dallas was a fabulous DIY celebration over brunch, including a sunrise first look, rooftop dancing, doughnut centerpieces, a wedding waffle, and a couple of gnomes! Emily Nicole Photo captured their lovely day!
Jake and I met in college when I handed Jake a free cup of coffee. It turned out we shared Chemistry class together and were both regulars at the campus library. After many group hangs and adventures, we started dating a year after that first cup of coffee. Getting to know Jake I quickly learned iced coffee is one of Jake’s great loves in life, so it was no surprise when he made two simple requests for our wedding: coffee and waffles. From here our big day quickly became a brunch wedding! – Aubrey
A modern loft DIY brunch wedding in Dallas, TX
When we found Lofty Spaces we fell in love – it was affordable, came packaged with almost everything we needed, had an outdoor courtyard area for our ceremony, and a indoor loft warehouse for our reception! The day we toured Jake left saying, “This is like exactly what I imagined getting married in.” And after one venue visit we were set. Our budget was pretty small so we did a lot of details ourselves to help save money. The awesome part of DIY (besides all the money not spent) is that it makes the day and the look of your wedding a lot more personal! The Thursday before the wedding, my sister and I spent the afternoon making the bouquets, boutonnieres, and ceremony florals – we had no prior experience working with flowers. But looking back now, my bridal bouquet ended up being something I was extremely proud of making! And we saved so much money ordering in bulk at Sam’s Club. Opting out of a traditional wedding cake, the wedding morning my brother made our waffle tower cake, topped with Mr. & Mrs. gnomes and surrounded by a waffle bar and towers of donuts! We also bought a stamp on Etsy with our name’s to add a personal touch to the coffee sleeves serving the cold brew coffee. For our table centerpieces we had donut towers! This was a big hit, especially with the kids… and all the college students! We also borrowed quite a bit of decorations from friends and family and used furniture Jake’s dad had built for our guestbook table and Mr. & Mrs. table. We loved how so many pieces of our wedding were created by or borrowed from the people who had supported and prayed for our relationship since the beginning! We had to quickly learn to be willing to ask for help and to let others help when they offer! Our families, friends and people from my home church made our wedding beautiful and run smoothly – they were so gracious and loving with their time and help! We could not have possibly done it without them!
