Hayley and Chris planned the ultimate DIY celebration for their Maleny rustic outdoor wedding! Everything was made with love, and their day was so personal and heartfelt. The color palette featured multiple shades of pink for an ombré effect; the five bridesmaids all wore the same dress style in a different shade of pink, and the groomsmen wore ombré pink linen ties. The couple even dyed the table runners themselves and handmade soy candles as gifts for their guests. lovers of moments captured their celebration!
A Maleny rustic outdoor wedding in Queensland, Australia
Our ceremony was at St. Albertus Chapel, which is a beautiful stone and timber chapel on a farm outside Maleny. Hayley’s instrumental teacher Mr. Bauer taught her music for seven years before he left her high school when she was in Year 11. When he left, Hayley wrote him a letter which included a request for him to play Beethoven’s Adagio Cantabile from the Sonata Pathetique at her future wedding. He agreed, and said he would so long as he could see the keys through his tears. Mr. Bauer played the piano as Hayley’s mum walked her down the aisle, and it was absolutely perfect. Chris is half Filipino, so we wanted to include some Filipino traditions in our ceremony. We had a candle ceremony at the start of the ceremony where we lit individual candles from our family’s own candles before jointly lighting a marriage candle together. We also had a ‘lasso’ placed around our shoulders. It’s in the shape of a figure eight to symbolise the never-ending commitment we made to each other through marriage.
There were so many DIY details. We used spray bottles to dye meters and meters of fabric with different shades of pink (to give it a watercolour look) and Hayley’s grandmother sewed them into table runners. Building the dance floor out of timber and pallets was a big job, but so worth it! It was huge, big enough to accommodate all their friends and family all night. We made 90 soy candles of various shades of pink for our guest gifts. We made rustic timber table numbers from logs on our property. We made a timber sign for our church with a ‘Song of Songs’ Bible passage on it. We loved being able to add our own personal touch to everything. Our wedding had ‘Chris and Hayley’ plastered all over it! Our desserts table was really special and family themed! Hayley’s mum made a three-tier cake (chocolate and red velvet!) that was decorated with fresh flowers. Chris’ mum made rocky road and bought pink macarons. Hayley’s grandmother had been saving mangos since last summer to make Hayley’s favourite dessert: her Nan’s mango pie! – Hayley and Chris
