Brook and Brian’s autumn wedding at her family’s plantation home in South Carolina was a dream come true because the home means so much to them both! Their backyard wedding (well, technically, it was the front yard) was a joyous celebration surrounded by family and friends with beautiful pastel hues and soft, romantic flowers. Megan Manus Photography captured their day!
A pastel backyard wedding at a Southern plantation home in South Carolina
Growing up as an outdoorsman, my husband frequently hunted a property with his father just a mile from his home. When I was twelve, my father purchased this land making it off limits to unknown hunters. Frustrated at the loss of his childhood “stomping grounds,” my husband initially resented the family who moved just down the road. He discussed with his father way back when, “I hear the big doctor who bought the land has a daughter. I’ll get us back there.” I can hear my now father-in-law simply chuckling at his son’s determination. Little did we all know, the boy would do just that.
I met Brian for the first time at our neighborhood grocery store while he was a bag boy. It seemed every time I went to the store, he was there and curious. After much persistence and a nudge from friends, I finally gave him a chance. I was fifteen when we started dating, just three years after moving to the property Brian loved.
From that point on, Brian and I managed to maintain our relationship through colleges, which were hours apart, and even our first jobs were in two different states. Each holiday season both of our families would hound Brian and inquire about when we were getting married. Five, six, seven years went by. I even moved seven hours from home without a ring with him for his work! I thought we would never get engaged and began to lose hope. He would reassure me time and time again to just be patient. Finally, after eight years of dating, he asked me during a ski trip. I was completely shocked and surprised. – Brook
