Frida Kahlo is an icon in the worlds of both art and fashion, and this styled wedding shoot in Rosarito from Narrative Visual marries those concepts beautifully! With bold florals, patterns and a color palette of vivid fuchsia, orange, coral, sage, gold and aquamarine, this inspiration shoot sets the scene for a relaxed and intimate beach wedding!
A bold, floral Frida Kahlo wedding styled shoot in Rosarito, Mexico
The concept behind the shoot began with Frida Kahlo, a Mexican artist well known for her surrealist portraits. Frida rose into high fashion for her embodiment of Mexican culture with bright florals, patterned textiles, and braided, ribbon-strewn hair. She was both familiar and enigmatic, and we wanted to capture this essence in our shoot.
In our minds, Frida would have wanted an event that was low key while still being visually luscious to the eye, so we gave our bride a relaxed reception with a decorative and intimate beach picnic. Candles set the mood for hors d’oeuvres and drinks by the ocean while the bride and bridesmaid reclined on pillows hand embroidered in Oaxaca, Mexico, and sold by local interior designer Fausto Palonco. Hand painted ceramic plates featuring birds and flora were also sourced locally from the avenue of artisans near the shooting location. True to Frida’s sense of style, our models wore ribbons woven into braided hair, crocheted and patterned white gowns from Rue de Seine Bridal, off-the-shoulder scarfs, bright flowers, and layers of beaded necklaces. We even got their creative sides flowing with a little abstract painting by the ebbing tide. – Jamie, Narrative Visual
