I‘ve lived in Florida for most of my life, so when I saw this charming orange grove wedding inspiration from Ashley Sanchez Photography and Yasmen Katrina Events land in my inbox, I couldn’t wait to share it! In addition to a wonderfully fresh pink and citrus-hued palette, the orange details in the décor and cake are beyond adorable. The flamingos on the invitations are the proverbial cherry on top of this sweet Floridian styled shoot!
An orange grove wedding inspiration shoot in Orlando, FL
Drive outside the city to smell the orange blossoms and see the lush green swampland! It’s a completely under-utilized secret of Florida, and it’s just a few steps beyond the Mickey Ears and white sand beaches. I envisioned the wedding of a 4th generation, modern Floridian girl. Where would she hold her sacred vows? She’d do her best to avoid the swanky, tourist infested hotels or beaches. Nope, no ballroom for this bride, she’d hold it in her grandparents’ orange grove, of course! Aisles of gorgeous greenery, succulent smells, and fabulous foliage! It’s the perfect place! Her color scheme would be whimsical and bright, but her patterns would be reminiscent of times past. She wouldn’t be afraid to toe the line between kitsch and trend, some might even call her meta, as she finds clever ways to pay homage to the stereotypes of her state (hello Flamingo feathers!) in a way that is elegant and sophisticated. Her cake is simple, a family recipe… and she draws inspiration from the things that are native to her location (the orange picker, the orchard sprayer, the fruit scale).
Some things to take note of from the pictures: The wildflower bouquet, not overly luxurious, but instead offering a sense of “down home” whimsy that married nicely to the earthiness of the grove setting; the Flamingo feathers displayed throughout (in the birdcage veil, a jar on the cake table, and inside a ceremony balloon); the reception table runner, inspired in color and in pattern detail by citrus; the edible oranges used as name place holders; the use of a complementary gingham pattern and black and white to ground our design inspiration in tradition; the antique mismatched family china that suggests that this family is self-made and traditional, choosing sentiment over trend; the groom’s attire, non-traditional look and colors mixed with traditional fabrics and pattens; the bride’s dress, again we find tradition in the lace and modernize it with shape! – Yasmen
