Who knew that a modernist glass house in the middle of a forest could inspire such a beautiful styled wedding? Kaula Marie Photography and a team of talented vendors used a rich and resplendent jewel-toned color palette to style this brand new venue for fall, complete with a breathtaking cake, beautiful reception tables, a woodsy ceremony space, an outdoor cocktail lounge, and a dapper groom and lovely bride! From the designers of the shoot:
When Kaula first pitched the idea about a unique jewel toned shoot we were hooked. Kaula had secured the venue, The Prairie Glass House, which is a gorgeous glass house set in the middle of the “Big Grove” forest. The owner, William Cote, designed the space into a modernist’s dream. All of the exterior walls are curved, the overall layout is in a Y shape and the interior is designed to feel like a museum. It is filled with interesting pieces of all styles, colors, and sizes, all curated by the Cote owners themselves.
A jewel toned styled wedding shoot in Champaign, IL
Once we toured the venue, we knew we wanted to incorporate the modern feel, but with a twist of elegance and luxury. We first looked at textures, immediately deciding on velvet and incorporated it into each vignette, always with an added modern element. From there we we started reaching out to vendors, particularly new companies and small businesses. From the vintage rings to the velvet guestbook; the mix of furniture to the painted cake; we knew we had found the perfect set of vendors to bring this shoot to life.
We found inspiration from so many things! Kaula’s initial idea, the beautiful venue, the luxurious fabrics, and the gorgeous jewel tones. We wanted the shoot to have a glam, modern atmosphere created using jewel tones, velvet, and fall fruits. We chose to focus on navy and deep magenta, with hints of purple, emerald, and gold.
I (Kaula) also wanted to show potential brides how the space could be used and transformed into a beautiful wedding venue and how their photos throughout the day could be dreamed up! I did this taking all of the typical photos you would on a wedding day including getting ready, first look, ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, cake, and bride and groom photos. I also chose to do a second night look to show potential brides how amazing the space could like if they spent even just ten minutes taking photos together after the sun had gone down.
