This couple’s love story began in the Summer of 2013 when Bridget had returned home after graduating with her master’s degree. Her best friend was dating Gary’s brother, so the four of them decided on a weekend trip to Gary’s family lake house. They had immediate chemistry, and Gary invited her out for ice weekend trip to Gary’s family lake house. They had immediate chemistry, and Gary invited her out for ice cream for their first official date, to which Bridget claims, “He already knew the key to my heart.” Three inseparable years later, they returned to the same lake house with their friends, and Gary suggested a sunset ride out on the water where he popped the question!
As they began to plan their big day, Bridget and Gary really wanted to focus on a “relaxed elegance vibe” which incorporated some wood elements with lots of greenery and muted blushes for their palette. “Wente is so beautiful on its own, I didn’t want our décor to fight with the venue,” Bridget says. One of their favorite wedding details was the bar setup, complete with a hand-painted sign (by local artist Lefty Lady Lettering) and a menu that featured their dogs, Turbo and Winston.
Favorite moments for the couple included their first look before the ceremony and reciting their own vows. The DIY details added something special as well – the wood accents were all handmade and stained by Bridget’s parents. Their advice for future couples is simple yet poignant. “Plan, but stop adding details two weeks before your wedding. Check in with each other throughout the planning process to make sure you’re both getting what you want out of your special day. It’s so easy to get bogged down and stressed out over the millions of details, but remember the reason you’re planning the whole day – to marry each other!”
