A Southern vintage-inspired wedding in Mt. Pleasant, SC
Paula and John’s spring wedding in Mt. Pleasant was inspired by Southern vintage style and included lots of burlap, ivory lace and mason jars, which complemented their venue, Boone Hall Plantation, perfectly! Their DIY celebration was captured by Richard Bell Photography.
I was first introduced to my venue on a school field trip I took with my Mother and her 1st grade class. I had been contemplating many other venues but really wasn’t blown away by any of them. When our tour took us to the Cotton Dock at Boone Hall I knew it was perfect! It fit all our specifications (non-traditional, indoor/outdoor space, and close to the Charleston area)!
My favorite DIY detail is hard, there were so many! And, it’s hard not to gravitate to the DIY project I did myself, but I really think the restored window on the fireplace really added to the lounge area. I painted the window an egg shell color then installed panes, to then hot glue mini lights onto the back. I then took a wooden “C” letter and covered it with stick-on moss. It ended up being a really nice touch to such a popular place at the wedding, right in front of the fireplace. Other favorites are: the antique birdcage, my seed packet favors and the updated suitcase I used for cards.
I always knew I wanted green to be one of my colors, since it is both our favorite color, so then I just worked off that, I thought of colors that would complement. I’m not a girl that’s into pink, so yellow became my secondary color, the brown and ivory came later with the table cloth selection and other touches. There was actually a spread in the Pottery Barn magazine that used these colors and that really helped build my confidence in the color palette. Also, I bought the Martha Stewart magazine that featured Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds’ wedding (which was at the same venue) for some ideas.
My favorite moment by far was marrying my wonderful husband, just being able to get through the vows without any excessive crying or mishaps was a relief. It really was the most beautiful part of the day, and I believe that really was conveyed in our pictures. I’m pretty sure in every picture after our ceremony I had a crazy smile from ear to ear. – Paula
