Looking for a modern and rustic alternative to the traditional guest book to add another unique touch to the reception? Then our DIY Alternative Guest Book is the perfect little project for you. The best part is it becomes a beautiful display piece for your home to remind you of your special day.
What You’ll Need
- Wood (cut down to 12” x 18”)
- Wood Stain
- Paint Brush
- Stencil Design
- Permanent Pen Color
Start with Cut Wood & Stain
Step 1: To get started I cut down a piece of wood to a 12” x 18” size. You will need to sand it down so there are no rough spots.
Step 2: Next, you apply the stain with a brush, and then wipe off and let dry for 24 hours.
Find Your Favorite Design & Attach
Step 3: I found a heart wreath design I liked online and printed it out. You can place it anywhere you like on the wood.
Step 4: Tape the paper down so it stays in place.
Trace Design & Make Permanent
Step 5: I then used a pen pressing hard to trace over the design which leaves an imprint in the wood. I used a permanent silver pen to trace over the design we just created.
Time for Guest Contributions!
Step 6 (Final Step): Now that your design is all done you just have to wait for your guests to sign the wood using the same permanent marker.
Quick Tip!
After the event, you can spray the surface with any kind of spray sealer so that the design will last and can be wiped clean. You can then attach a wall hanger to the back to hang on your wall or use a picture easel to display on a shelf.
