Creative Ideas for Spring Wedding Decor

Spring weddings are more than just pastels and flowers! As much as I love classic spring wedding decor, it’s always fun to push the envelope a little and try something unexpected. All of these decor trends are really hot right now, and I hope they’re not going away anytime soon!

Rocks, Crystals & Geodes

Let’s start with one of my (current) favorite decor trends! The raw, organic beauty of the earth shines through in the iridescence of geodes, quartz, agate and minerals. For a bohemian, laid-back look, you can incorporate pieces into your table decor as table numbers, centerpieces or escort cards. And of course, there’s always the mini, edible version: rock candy!

Many of the geodes and crystals you see have different symbolic meanings, so it’s also quite interesting to research the meanings behind different pieces you include in your wedding celebration. A neutral color palette or a color scheme that accents the natural hues of the gems works a charm for the other elements of your wedding, such as the bridal party attire or paper goods.

Geometric Details

When you think of the clean lines and bold shapes of geometric details, you think of a modern wedding, right? Geometric pieces are a fun way to swap out pastels for vibrant hues to create a contemporary aesthetic.

They work on anything from cake toppers to confetti, backdrops or centerpieces! Their sleek, simplistic style is truly refreshing, and don’t forget that opposites attract; organic, soft florals look fabulous with geometric shapes.

Terrariums

Terrariums are all about bringing the outdoors inside, and they’re just perfect for spring weddings. I think what I love most about terrariums is their incredible versatility. You can make them from virtually any glass vessel: apothecary jars, bell jars, large bowls, etc.

You can also include any number of natural elements like moss, air plants, succulents, ferns, cacti, stones and even miniature figurines. Terrariums are easy DIY centerpieces for brides; once you create a mini garden scene inside your container, you can even add table numbers to them.

Watercolor & Calligraphic Decor

Watercolor designs are incredibly popular for spring weddings, especially in the form of the paper goods: menus, invitations, table numbers, escort cards, etc. This is another relatively simple DIY project for crafty brides, but there are plenty of professionals making gorgeous watercolor creations, too.

Calligraphy used to be only for the invitations, but a lot of couples are incorporating beautiful, hand-lettered signage and decor in their weddings, commonly in metallic inks with gorgeous flourishes.

And when you combine watercolor designs with calligraphy? Magic.

Hanging Designs

When it comes to decorating for a wedding, you can hang pretty much anything and make it look cool: lanterns, lace doilies, embroidery hoops, umbrellas, chandeliers… The list goes on!

Birdcage lanterns can hang from big trees at your ceremony location for a charming, rustic or shabby chic look. Fill them with flowers during the daytime, or with tea lights for an evening celebration.

Upside-down umbrellas suspended in mid-air create a whimsical effect and add a lot of color to the venue. If you purchase paper parasols, they’re also significantly less expensive than hanging floral designs. Add a few strings of twinkle lights, and you have a magical ambiance!

For another affordable, DIY decoration, you can hang embroidery hoops or lace doilies as a ceremony backdrop. You can take it one step further by stitching your names and wedding date onto the fabric in the hoops!
