A Hindu wedding ceremony in Chicago, IL
Leah and Nishant’s August wedding was a colorful Hindu ceremony that included the exchange of flower garlands, the sacred thread ceremony, the necklace ceremony and more. They chose the Greenhouse Loft LLC in Chicago, a beautifully light and open space, as both their venue and their photographer! The wedding was awash with colors as many of the guests donned Indian saris, including even the youngest guests. After the ceremony, Leah and Nishant changed into Western attire. Because many guests were unfamiliar with the ceremony, the program not only introduced the wedding party but offered incredible detail as to the origins of the Hindu ceremony and each of the distinct rituals. The couple wanted to serve an all-vegetarian meal, and they ended up with a layered ratatouille tart, a spicy chickpea and summer vegetable curry, and a simple curry without garlic or onions. The homemade naan and trio of chutneys were eaten by tart and curry eaters alike. The pie buffet bucked the traditional wedding cake and offered different flavors like ginger-peach, mixed berry crumble, and Derby pie (a Kentucky tradition combining chocolate, pecans and bourbon). A family friend put together their flower arrangements, including tiger lilies that were grown specifically for the event, and long strands of carnations that hung behind the altar. The favors were nectarines, individually wrapped in green tissue paper; the aroma of the fresh fruit filled the entryway with sweetness and guests appreciated the healthy and delicious snack.
