An outdoor wedding with a Robin Hood twist in Norden, CA
Sam and Rebecca love being outdoors in the woods and imagined their wedding to be “sort of like rock and roll meets Robin Hood.” Heidi Huber Photography did the honors of capturing their August wedding in Norden, California.
After embracing the big wedding idea with a fairly small budget, Sam and I focused on making the celebration as personalized and intimate as possible, bringing in as much of the family as possible. Finding Clair Tappaan Lodge was such a lucky discovery!
Clair Tappaan is the Sierra Club Lodge in the Tahoe area, and they don’t typically do a lot of weddings. When we walked up the road to the lodge and saw the beautiful meadow open up encircled by a pine forest, we knew this was the place. For the décor, we decided to go with mismatched silver pieces and wooden tables. We wanted it to look as though heirloom pieces had been brought out to the forest for a celebration. My family and I collected silver pitchers and other antique silver pieces from thrift stores for an entire year.
My Dad made wooden medieval bread trenchers for all the tables, and we got silver goblets for the head table to drink from. My sister, friend and I took a van out the day before the wedding and scoured the surrounding area for wildflowers. We ended up using primarily wildflowers for the tables and it was stunning. For the groomsmen’s portraits, we brought out our own collection of vintage and unique instruments, like banjos and accordions to pose with. Sam and I borrowed my Grandmother’s green velvet love seat that has been in almost every family picture on that side of the family for our portraits. – Rebecca
