Ashley and Sean tied the knot in November at Virginia’s Lost Creek Winery! The whole day had such a cozy vibe, thanks in part to the rich color palette (inspired by Ashley’s dress) and handmade décor. Ashley chose sangria for her bridesmaids’ dresses, since it beautifully complemented her ivory lace dress with a silver oyster underlay, as well as the other wine-themed details. Lelia Marie Photography did a beautiful job capturing their celebration!
A cozy fall Lost Creek Winery wedding in Leesburg, VA
What inspired the decor for your wedding day? Ashley: We wanted our guests to feel comfortable yet at the same time feel like they were part of something special. Sean: We knew that we were going to be doing a lot of the details and final touches on our own to keep expenses low and to help make things more personal. This meant that things needed to be simple but we wanted to make sure that there was a touch of elegance as well. We went for a relaxed, rustic style décor for the wedding without going too “country,” so we worked with the florist to put together a simple yet elegant look for the ceremony and reception space. Since the ceremony and reception were being held at a winery, the inclusion of wine corks seemed appropriate for the venue, and highlighted the sangria color of the bridesmaid dresses, tablecloths and ribbons throughout the space.
What was your favorite moment of the day? Ashley: My most memorable moment was the first look pictures. There is so much build up to the day and the first moment that you see each other. It was exciting and sentimental. Sean: My most memorable moment was the surprise that Ashley had for me during our first dance. Unbeknownst to me, she had secretly gone to a local recording studio to record her singing the lyrics to the song we would use for our first dance. The DJ announced the surprise as we walked on stage and it totally caught me off guard. As the song started to play I was blown away at how well she had done and really touched by the extra thought and care that she had given our first dance. Judging by the number of requests for copies of the mp3 we got as we went table to table after dinner, lots of other people in the audience felt the same way.
What was your favorite detail? Ashley: I was really pleased with the arch the florist designed for the ceremony. It was simple, elegant, and romantic. I also really loved the dessert table the baker designed with the cake, cupcakes, corks, flowers, cake topper, and our homemade corkboard. Sean: Too many to choose from! One thing that really turned out well was the handmade corkboard that Ashley and I spent a long time working on prior to the wedding. We had to hand cut dozens of donated corks and then determine how to get them all evenly placed and cut down into a blank frame to make it work. We then dyed several corks a deep wine color to make a monogrammed H in the center. Our baker used the board as the focal point at our cupcake and cake table and I think it looked great!
