Summer is upon us and boy oh boy, is it hot! I have been spending most of my days in front of the fan willing it to turn just a little bit faster so that I can stay cool, despite the oppressive heat. I have had varying levels of success. In other news, I have been looking for ways to go out on dates with my significant other without breaking the bank – and also while staying cool – so I want to share some of the ones I have found in the hope that you can enjoy a summer of love, too.
Visit a Winery
Wineries are beautiful, romantic places – full of history and wine – and just primed for a couple’s rendezvous. Pack up a picnic and your main squeeze and set out for a winery near you. Enjoy a tasting before taking a bottle and your picnic off to a nearby hilltop and enjoying the serenity. Bliss.
Backyard Camping
Too busy to head out camping for the weekend? Never fear – provided you have a backyard, you can enjoy a camping trip all of your own (with the added convenience of hot showers and a flushing toilet!). Set up a tent in your backyard and snuggle down for a night of ghost stories and fun.
Tee Up
Go to the driving range with your date or babe and watch each other fail dismally at driving long shots. When you’re tired of that, grab a beer or a milkshake and watch the pros as they kick butt at golf!
Moonlight Cinema
Nothing beats a show, except when that show is outdoors, and especially when that show is at night under the moon. Enter: Moonlight Cinema – the ultimate date night of cinema buffs everywhere. You grab a patch of grass and kick back to watch the film. Easy romance.
Dancing Lessons
Ever wanted to Cha Cha? Well, grab your date and kick your heels up at a dance class near you. You’ll enjoy being terrible together and then eventually, maybe, you won’t be so bad.
Food Trucks
Most cities have a fleet of these bad boys hanging around – and for some reason they like to hang out together, so grab your date and head out for a treat from a food truck. If you can pair it with a moonlight cinema experience all the better!
Watch a Sunset
This is a very simple one, and doesn’t require a whole lot of planning – just a high spot and probably a car (unless you like bushwalking). Set out for the hills and watch the sun sink as you hold your darlin’s hand. Easy peasy love.
Go Stargazing
Pack a picnic rug and make sure you choose a warm night for this one. You’ll need a field, too, and maybe even some whisky or something to keep you warm. Keep an eye out for shooting stars and if you see one, you have to share a secret.
Boating
Saddle up for some old fashioned boating fun! Spend a day shuttling around and enjoying the water. There are a number of waterfront venues in Melbourne where you can enjoy a drink after your boating exertions.
Get Ice Cream
Very simple one again, but the summer months do call for some ice cream every now and then! Seek out the strangest flavour combinations and make sure you share your scoop.
I hope that these summer fun date ideas have sparked some romance in your mind! Don’t forget, the simplest date is often the best one, so be sure to keep things easy and you’ll have a great time.
